Our Church Home Needs Repair!
The Catalina Bible Church was founded in 1964, with its members meeting in various homes in Avalon to share the Word of God. In March 1965, the church moved into the 1924 home of the renown author, Gene Stratton-Porter where it remains today. This wood-framed structure has taken a beating over the past 83 years from storms, wind, and the salt air of the Pacific Ocean. It could really use a complete "make-over," but right now we would just be happy to see that much needed repairs be accomplished first to prevent an already worsening situation.
As you can see from the photos above, we desperately need carpenters, plasterers, electricians, and painters to restore this wonderful old building into a safe, pleasant place to live and worship our Lord. Some work has been started in the Pastor's residence, but was never completed. The church's exterior needs major repair and painting, including replacing rotting wood and old, decrepit gutters and downspouts. Our sanctuary needs plastering, painting, and new carpet. There is also so much "detail" work around the building that needs to be done! Can you help?
We have limited housing space to accommodate workers, although many have slept in sleeping bags on our sanctuary floor! We are happy to feed and pamper anyone who wishes to make our church on Catalina Island his or her "missionary project" this Summer.
